Soft Homemade Sandwich Rolls
(makes 5–6 long rolls)
Ingredients:
- 500 g (4 cups) bread flour or all-purpose flour
- 7 g (2¼ tsp) instant yeast
- 10 g (2 tsp) salt
- 25 g (2 tbsp) sugar
- 300 ml (1¼ cups) warm water or milk (about 40°C / 105°F)
- 30 g (2 tbsp) soft butter or neutral oil
- Extra flour for dusting
Instructions:
- Mix the dough
In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt and sugar. Add the warm water/milk and butter/oil. Mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Knead by hand for 8–10 minutes (or 5–6 minutes in a mixer) until smooth and elastic. - First rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased glass rectangular dish (or bowl), cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours until doubled and bubbly (exactly like the video). - Shape
Generously flour your work surface. Flip the dough out. Using a dough scraper or knife, divide into 5–6 long pieces. Gently shape each into a long oval/log (no need to be perfect). Place on a floured or parchment-lined baking tray. Dust the tops lightly with flour. - Second rise
Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy. - Bake
Preheat oven to 200°C / 400°F. Bake for 18–22 minutes until golden brown.
(Optional: place a small tray of hot water in the oven for a slightly better crust.) - Cool
Transfer to a wire rack. Enjoy warm — the inside should be soft, airy and fluffy just like in the video.
Tips for the exact video look:
- Dust generously with flour before baking.
- Don’t over-knead or add too much extra flour.
- Bake until just golden, not dark.
This is the classic soft sandwich-roll style shown in the video. Enjoy!
