The image shows only the ingredient list. Below is the full method for making soft, homemade bread in a slow cooker.
Crock Pot Bread
Makes: 1 round loaf
Prep: 10–15 minutes (+ rising time)
Cook: 2–2½ hours on HIGH
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water (about 105–115°F / 40–46°C)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Activate the yeast (optional but recommended for best rise):
In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. - Make the dough:
Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. (If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour 1 tablespoon at a time.) - First rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 45–60 minutes, or until roughly doubled in size. - Prepare the crock pot:
Line a 6-quart (or similar) slow cooker with parchment paper (leave some overhang for easy removal).
Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a smooth round ball, and place it in the center of the parchment-lined crock pot. - Cook:
Cover the slow cooker. To prevent excess moisture from dripping onto the bread, place a clean kitchen towel or a few paper towels under the lid (between the lid and the pot).
Cook on HIGH for 2 to 2½ hours. The bread is done when the top is firm, the bottom is lightly golden, and an instant-read thermometer inserted in the center reads about 190–200°F (88–93°C). - Optional browning:
The top will be pale. For a golden crust like in the photo, carefully lift the bread out using the parchment, place it on a baking sheet, and broil for 2–4 minutes until golden (watch closely so it doesn’t burn). - Cool:
Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least 15–20 minutes before slicing.
Tips for Success
- Use instant yeast for the simplest process (no need to proof separately if you prefer).
- Don’t skip the parchment paper — it makes removal easy and prevents sticking.
- Cooking times can vary by slow cooker model, so start checking around the 2-hour mark.
- Best eaten the same day. Store leftovers in an airtight container or freeze sliced.
This produces a soft, fluffy loaf with a nice crust, just like the one shown. Enjoy your homemade crock pot bread
